Family Learning Adventure

The Family Learning Adventure is a creative educational program designed to let families with Deaf and Hard of Hearing children gain knowledge about deafness, share their experiences with other families, and learn to communicate more fully with each other in a warm, caring atmosphere. The Family Learning is held at the Hawaii School for the Deaf and the Blind in Honolulu. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided at the weekend. Families from neighboring islands are invited for a shared overnight experience, free of charge. A limited number of airline tickets are available for neighbor island families on a first-come-first-served basis.

The Adults’ program includes:

  • Parent Workshops
  • Exposure to American Sign Language
  • Panels of parents of Deaf children and young Deaf adults
  • Displays from various Hawaii agencies serving Deaf people

The Children’s program includes:

  • Drama with a Deaf instructor
  • Storytelling and story-reading by Deaf person
  • Arts and Crafts
  • Deaf Games

The Families’ program includes:

  • Shared Reading Project
  • Fun Activities
  • Storytelling by the Deafies
